Blessings in a Backpack 2009 - How you can help (and we really need your help!)
Adopt A School
Adopting a school close to your community is fairly simple.
The most important requirement is that you are a parent, teacher, administrator or community member that recognizes how important it is that all of our neighbors' children have the same opportunities for daily nutrition, which positively impacts educational success!
How can you begin the process of Adopting a School?
1) Contact Blessings in a Backpack for “How To Get Started” program materials.
Click on www. blessingsinabackpack. com to find out how you can Get Involved!!!
2) Research Title 1 Schools and Free/Reduced Meal Utilization programs in your community.
3) Identify possible local supporters that can:
- Donate non-perishable food or funds to buy the food at a discounted rate.
- Volunteers to transport the food to the school and get it placed in to the backpack every Friday.
4) Call Blessings in a Backpack with this preliminary information and we will create a simple to administer program together with your resources and ours. FYI..all backpacks are supplied by Blessings in a Backpack corporate headquarters through national public, private and corporate donors.
Organize a Food Drive
We accept food donations throughout the country. While our main offices are located in Louisville, Kentucky, we have donation centers and food pantries throughout the United States that will gladly accept most non-perishable food. We can also arrange for food pick-up.
Contact Blessings to get in touch with the location information closest to you.
Donate Time
You can assist us by simply donating some of your time and talent. Several of our volunteer opportunities include: sorting food, stuffing backpacks on Friday afternoons, moving food weekly from storage location to school, among many other opportunities. Contact us at www. blessingsinabackpack. com for further information and to get involved.
Donate Food
We help community leaders who adopt a school connect with local resources that will discount or donate food for the children in their school. If you are a food manufacturer, distributor or retail organization that would like to support a school by donating some or all of the food needed for a school in your local area, contact us. We will help you get in contact with the local Blessings in a Backpack administrators that will get your food to the right school.
Donate Backpacks
If you are a manufacturer, distributor or retailer of backpacks and would like to donate new or unsold backpacks to Blessings in a Backpack Corporate Headquarters, contact us. We will help you with the necessary logistics of getting your donation to the right people that help feed our children every weekend. We will also supply tax deductible documentation.
Donate Physical Resources
- If you're not in the food or backpack industry, you can still help us fight hunger in your community by donating resources.
- If you can drive, have a truck and/or van that can be used for deliveries, if you have a forklift that we can borrow, or if you have employees who are looking for a way to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you!
Monetary Donations
Since we are able to purchase food at a reduced rate, your donation of just $80.00 will provide a backpack to one child each weekend for an entire school year! All money donated is tax deductible as we are a 501(c)3 organization.
Click the link on the right side of the page (link to follow) to donate using Paypal. http://www. blessingsinabackpack. com All money donated will be used to purchase food, and will come with a copy of the "purchased foods receipt" mailed to you in the amount of the donation. Paypal accepts e-checks, as well as most major credit cards.
Or send your donation in check form directly to our address:
